License

The licenses of MusicReader are integrated in special license file (license.lic). In most cases you will receive this license file by e-mail. Before you can install it, you need to save the file on a temporary location on your computer. You can't open the license file itself.

There are two ways to install a new license:

  1. If you are a new user or if your previous license is expired or corrupt, then you can choose a new license when you start MusicReader or MusicConvert.
  2. Otherwise you can install the new license via the settings dialog, in the menu . The button "Install..." in the tab "License" can be used to install a new license file.

Upgrade

When you want to upgrade to a newer version of MusicReader you can simply install this version over the old installation. It's not necessary to uninstall the old version, but you need to be sure you install the new version in the same directory.

Security messages (windows only)

During installation and first start of MusicReader you can get some security messages and warnings like:

  • Printer Driver not certified
  • Firewall notices
  • User Account Control / Administration messages (Vista)

You need to confirm these messages in order to use MusicReader. There is no need to worry about these messages because they are standard procedures for the security of your system.

Plug-in Installation

Some functionality of the software needs to be manually. The reason for not integrating them in the standard installation lays mainly in legal restrictions for distribution of these plugins. These restrictions do not apply when plugins are installed separately, but you are advised to read the license agreement of the software. This chapter describes installation of the MP3, PDF and screen rotation plug-ins.

MP3 Support

To enable MP3 support you need to download the Sun Java MP3 plugin. Follow steps below to do this, please ignore all information on the website of Sun Microsystems.

  1. Go to http://java.sun.com/products/java-media/jmf/mp3/download.html
  2. Click on "Download"
  3. Select "Other" (!!! Not "Windows" !!!)
  4. Select "I agree to the Software License Agreement" and press "Continue".
  5. Click on "javamp3-1_0.zip".
  6. Save this file in the plugins directory of MusicReader
    1. On Windows this is in most cases c:\program files\MusicReader\plugins\
    2. On Mac OS you need to go to Application->MusicReader then right click on MusicReader and choose "Show Package Contents". Move the file to Contents -> Resources -> Java -> Plugins .
  7. Start MusicReader to complete the installation, if previous steps are correct you get a "Installed MP3 Plugin, please restart MusicReader." message. Under Windows Vista you need to start MusicReader as administrator to install the plugin. To do this click with the right mouse button on the MusicReader icon and select "Run as administrator". You only need to do this once.
  8. Start MusicReader again to use it with MP3 Support
