Search Library

In this section the search functionality of the library will be discussed.

Options

With the search bar on top of the library you can search for pieces using the following features:

  • Composer - please use last name, first-name or choose a composer from the list. This field also searches in arranger and lyricist.
  • Title of the piece
  • Genre of the piece
  • Instrumentation - type of ensemble/orchestra
  • Instrument - piece for a specific instrument (alone or in combination with other instruments)

Some of these fields have predefined values and auto complete functionality. Fill in one or more of these options and press search to start the search. With clear you can clear all fields to start over again.

The button browse can be used to locate a file outside the library, for example on a USB Stick, CD-ROM or another location on your computer.

You can also determine the order of the pieces listed in the results:

The search results can be displayed in the following views:

Search results

The pieces of the search results are listed as an icon with text:

  • Composer
  • Instrumentation Icon
  • Instruments
  • Piece title

Extra information is displayed when you hold the mouse cursor on a piece.

To open a piece you simply click it, the library will be closed and the piece loaded.

Browse tabs

To get a sub selection of the results you can choose one of the tabs which represent a list of categories. These categories are the genres, instrumentations and instruments available in the search results. With these tabs you can make a quick selection of the results without doing a completely new search.

Instrumentation Icons

These icons are used in the MusicReader library to indicate instrumentations of pieces:

Playlists

This feature is only available in the library of MusicReader, it is not available in MusicConvert.

In the library you can create a playlist of pieces which you want to load in MusicReader. To enable the playlist mode of the library change the button to . When this mode is enabled all selected pieces in the Library will be added to the playlist. The pieces in the playlist are visible on the right side of the screen. You can drag and drop pieces to add them to the playlist or to change their order inside the playlist. To remove a piece from the playlist simple click on that piece in the playlist panel. You can load and save playlist files by using and buttons. To confirm the playlist simply exit the library and the pieces will be loaded automatically.

Add and remove pieces

If you want to add a piece to the library then you need to copy/move that file to the library directory. You can find the location of this directory in the Configuration Screen under the tab "File Location". You can also remove pieces from this directory.

Removing a piece is also possible in the library itself, simply use the right mouse button. Be careful with removing pieces in this way because the software cannot undo this action.
